Who we are and what we are working towards…

The PFC is a newly developing member-owned local business. Though we do not yet have a physical storefront, our member-owners collectively purchase more than $6000 worth of food each month from both local and national producers.

With no paid staff, we rely on one another to meet our collective food needs and to grow our organization into the larger, more accessible retail store we all envision and have been working towards for the last three years. Each co-op member contributes to the success of our organization in his or her own way: helping with the online ordering systems, working with vendors, planning the distribution of orders, managing the business, or planning for future growth. Member-owner work shifts are generally three hours per month. Scheduling is often very flexible.

As members, we have established a decision-making process based on consensus and are committed to cooperative principles. We come from a variety of backgrounds and bring with us a broad range of skills and professional experience including community organizing, education, bookkeeping, owning small businesses, store management, social work, web and database design, group facilitation, and fine arts.

Over the past three years, our work has included writing legal documents, educating the community, networking with farmers, producers, and other local business owners, consulting with leaders in cooperative development, financial planning, and envisioning our future growth with feedback from our member-owners and the general community.
